Chris Kardambikis & Jasdeep Khaira sat down with me to talk about their binding forces. They are the dynamic duo known as Encyclopedia Destructica.
They are a curious, meticulous, invested, relentless and supportive presence in Pittsburgh's creative flow.
I had the wonderful gift of working with them on the 2007 Flying Destructicate, and my experiences working with them were humbling and expansive. Making a book with them changed my trajectory and made me think a little less about myself (im still vain as hell) and a little more about the power of creative communities.
In fact these video interviews were inspired by their cultural empathy. They are such inspiring individuals. Pittsburgh will never be the same.
From their mission statement:
Encyclopedia Desstructica is an art-zine inspired from the need to explore and export contemporary arts/culture in a way thats accessible and easy to engage.
These hard-bound issues provide a forum for a primordial dialogue between artists, harvesting themes from sketchbooks and journals. Encyclopedia Destructica hopes to create a community wide awareness of developing work by local artists and writers through the public forum of a zine and the intimate experience of a book. Created and distributed in a DIY fashion, Encyclopedia Destructica promotes this attitude as well as providing support and resources for local artists to create their own book/zine projects.
