Women’s Legal approached us with a number of the affidavits from women they had worked with. While the stories were horrific and sobering, it was the aftermath of many of them that was new to us. It’s easy to assume that escape itself ends the trauma of family violence, but for many, it’s just the beginning.
We worked on a concept with Director Thomas Hyland and cinematographer Sky Davies to shed light on the untold part of the story. That for many who seperate from family violence, escape is no easy option, with women staying in abusive relationships longer due to a lack of avenues for support and knowledge of their options.
The voiceover is from a real case, and as the woman's identity needed to be hidden, actor Susie Dee agreed to help visualise the woman's indecision. All cast, crew and post production provided their time pro bono to support the cause.
