Malacca is one of the 13 states of Malaysia. Indian tamil traders arrived in Malacca over 400 years ago and married to local girls from Chinese, Malay and Portugese origin. Their children belongs to Malcaa Chitty community. They practised Saiva religion with devotion and built the first Saiva Temple in 1781 on a land provided by the Dutch. The temple is known as Sri Poyyatha Vinayagamoorthy temple. They belived that Vinayagar will not lie and offer them what ever good to them. This temple came under Chettiar community control for administrative purposes. They have added other deities namely, Murugan with Valli and Deivani, Mariamman, Sundareswarar, Sanieswarar, Vyravar, Rama and Sitha. This temple is located in the heart of Malacca next to old Mosque and Chinese temple.
