CROSSLAKE LUTHERAN CHURCH
MEMORIAL SUNDAY SERVICE
May 29, 2011
ORDER FOR WORSHIP
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
PRELUDE: Bell Choir “Let There Be Peace”
* CALL TO WORSHIP
L: On this Memorial Day weekend, gracious God, we
remember the words of Jesus:
All: "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."
L: We remember those who have laid down their lives in service to their country.
All: We remember, and thank them for their love.
L: They left homes and families, loved ones and jobs.
All: We remember, and thank them for their sacrificial love.
L: They valued freedom more than their own lives.
All: We remember, and thank them for their ultimate gift.
L: By their lives, and by their deaths, they point us to you, O Christ:
All: For you showed your love for all humankind on the
Cross of Calvary. You laid down your life for your
friends and enemies alike.
L: Be with us this day as we remember those who have gone before us, as we honor those veterans who have survived various wars, and as we pray for and support those who are experiencing war in this day.
All: Help us, to love one another as you have first loved us.
L: Let us pray together: Lord of the nations, guide our
people by your Spirit to go forward in justice and
freedom. Give us what outward prosperity may be
your will, but above all things give us faith in you, that
our nation may bring glory to your name and blessings
to all peoples; through your Son, Jesus Christ our
