There is increasing recognition of the important role alliance ruptures and repairs can play in psychotherapy. To date, most studies of alliance ruptures have relied on patient and/or therapist self-report to identify moments of strain in the alliance. However, there are limitations to relying on patients and therapists to be both aware of and willing to report the occurrence of ruptures. The Rupture Resolution Rating System (3RS; Eubanks, Muran, & Safran, 2015) is an observer-based measure of ruptures and resolution processes that provides a more fine-grained look at patient-therapist interactions in therapy sessions. In this webinar, Dr. Catherine F. Eubanks will provide an introduction to the 3RS coding system, explanations and examples of markers of confrontation and withdrawal ruptures and resolution strategies, and opportunities to practice using the measure.
