This video is part of the Approximation Theory art project by Felipe Cucker and Hector Rodriguez. Every frame in a short clip from the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics is reconstructed using three different dictionaries of still images. One dictionary consists of linear forms. Another consists of curved forms. The third one consists of Chinese characters. The differences between the three reconstructions illustrate the qualitative aspects of mathematical approximation.
