Ismar David (1910–1996) was a prolific calligrapher, type designer, illustrator, architectural designer and educator. Like many other graphic artists of his time, each year he designed New Year’s greeting cards for his clients, friends, and associates. With a broad range of design approaches and his signature precision, this carefully observed tradition became a veritable chronicle of David’s artistic evolution encapsulated in ephemera. Shani Avni will survey David’s remarkable lifework by taking us along on a journey through his yearly wishes.
