SMART (Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers Union) and SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association) have been providing energy efficiency and clean energy job training to members since Act 129, Pennsylvania's cornerstone energy efficiency policy, was passed. As a result, their members are an integral part of the state's growing clean energy economy. SMART and SMACNA workers have secure, good-paying manufacturing jobs, which include commercial HVAC installation and architectural roofing installation. Many of the 62,000 Pennsylvanians who work in energy efficiency jobs are SMART or SMACNA members.
Members help companies keep costs low, and help building owners and occupants reduce energy use and keep utiliy bills low. Their members helped build PNC Tower in Pittsburgh, the greenest LEED building in the United States.
