The Scream (by Hille/Huhtala/Ketola/Saar - spontaneous improvisation)
The Sid Hille Trio F# is an improvising trio with an almost telepathic understanding of each other's musical intentions.
Nothing (or nearly nothing) is agreed beforehand, one of the musicians brings in an idea, the others listen, respond, add, contradict or create tension by going a different way altogether. The trio's live shows have been thrilling audiences in Finland and Estonia during fall 2017.
In November 2017, whilst on tour in Estonia, the band went into the recording studio in Viljandi. Estonian singer Liina Saar happened to be in town and joined the trio for several tracks, the one in this clip being a wild and energetic take. (Here the agreement was: 'Let's do something wild.' Seconds before starting, Hille said: 'Let's all scream in the beginning', and there: the title and the energy level were set.)
While some of the other tracks recorded during this day turned out very beautiful and melancholic, this one captures the raw energy of the band's sponateous improvisation.
The concert sets last usually 60 minutes consisting of an uninterrupted stream of musical ideas, styles and rhythms flowing one into the other. The interaction of their linked musical minds is audible and visible, often funny, always grooving and swinging.
The recording 'Sid Hille Trio F# with Liina Saar' is due to be released in summer 2018.
