Mark’s resurrection account is the shortest of all the gospels. It ends rather abruptly with a group of women fleeing the empty tomb, filled with awe, astonishment and fear! We can be sure that Mark’s ending is intentional. It fits well with one of the major themes in the gospel of Mark – awe as the proper response to the in-breaking of God’s Kingdom through Jesus Christ. What makes this monumental event awe–inspiring is that it brings together the power and faithfulness of God! Christ has risen; death has been defeated; and God has won, AS PROMISED! What should our response be? The angelic figure tells the women, “But go, tell…!” Christ has risen! Salvation has been provided! The Cross worked! Go and tell!
