Ana Mendes Iaspis Studio Grant Holder in Stockholm 1 September–31 December 2017
Ana Mendes began her career as a writer; she evolved gradually into visual arts. Her performance work started by accident, when she wrote Self-portrait, a play about her identity. Currently, she develops works in which she uses photography, video, text and installation to address issues of memory, language and identity.
Iaspis is the Swedish Arts Grants Committee's international programme for Visual and Applied Artists; in the fields of visual art, architecture, design, fashion and crafts. The premises of the Iaspis residency programme in Stockholm is centrally located at Maria skolgata 83 on the, urban island of Södermalm in Stockholm, and comprises offices, studios, project room and a unique archive of artists who are currently working in Sweden.
