Nominated for Best Animation at IFTA's 2012.
A young man is on the brink of emigration, but as he races through the streets of Dublin he comes to realise the spirit he’s leaving behind.
Directed by James Stacey
Produced by Sean Smith
Made under the Irish Film Board Short Shorts scheme.
Screening at the Galway Film Fleadh. July 2011.
“Origin” was scripted by Matthew Darragh and James Stacey, with an original score by Rónán Ó Snodaigh of Kíla.
“Origin has been produced primarily using Maya and Mental Ray while also relying heavily on its compositing pipeline. The creation of the streets of Dublin was started by using reference images, still photography and 3D models. These elements were then combined in Maya where the staging and cameras were setup. Templates were then output and painted on with good old fashioned Photoshop background painting. These paintings were then projected back on to the 3D models and environments. The shots were then brought into compositing with a large number of shots composited employing projection Mapping techniques."
