In the summer of 1881, Reverend W.B.A. Coolidge did one of the most impressive route for that period i have ever seen...
He climbed the first ice route in the history of the Alps.the big couloir located in the coldest face of this mountain.
He was with two strong brothers, Almer Christian and Ulrich, and they climbed the north face of Monviso, the highest peak of Alpi Cozie, on 28 of July 1881.
It's a magic line with 1150 meters of vertical drop, with some mixed steps and a beautiful final ridge to reach the top.
Last week i was lucky enough to find this historical route in perfect conditions...and with Antoine and Enrico we started from the parking at 00.30 because bivouac Villata, located at the bottom of the north face, was full and we reached the top at 07.30 after one of the most beautiful sunrise i have seen in my life.
Next time i'll be there with my skis on...it's too a beautiful line!!!
