A Woman Was Harassed Here began as a street art project pioneered by Aqui Thami, who is one half of ‘the dharAvi art room’. By wheat-pasting posters in vivid pink on city walls, Aqui marks the places where she or the women she knows have experienced harassment. The Pink Posters bearing the uncomfortable testimony- “A Woman was Harassed Here”, is Aqui’s attempt at engaging women in a discourse on harassment.
Dharavi Art Room is a space committed to using art as a tool for women and children to have a voice and express themselves. A peer-to-peer, self-directed learning lab based in Bombay, India. The Art Room is an attempt to create a safe space - not just in the physical realm, but in the minds and imagination of Dharavi’s residents - by providing them with creative outlets and explorations.
NBNW x A Woman Was Harassed Here seeks to spread Aqui’s universal message far and wide. Funds raised through the sales will support the efforts of the Dharavi Art Room. In supporting her, we want to raise the women that speak up and choose to change their narratives from hushed whispers to hot-pink, impossible to ignore truths.
