New cycling trails to open in County Down, Northern Ireland

Cycling in Northern Ireland is set for a healthy boost with up to 34km of multi-use trails to be opened at the Castle Ward Estate in County Down later this month.

Trail building pioneer Dafydd Davis has been working with key stakeholders including the Countryside Access and Activities Network (CAAN), Northern Ireland Tourist Board and the National Trust to develop an accessible trail network with short, medium and long distances to suit all ability of rider.

Visitor facilities will be provided at the shore of Strangford Lough which will include a bike wash, car parking area and central information point. The Clearsky Adventure Centre located at the trail head will provide a range of Vitus mountain bikes to be ridden on the new off-road route.

Sport NI have also helped to provide trikes, tandems and tag-alongs too, so there really should be something for all type of rider whether you’re looking for a leisurely pedal in the picturesque surroundings or want an adrenaline buzz on the mountain bike trails.
