From the war-torn skies over Europe in WWII, to Hollywood's legendary backlots, HAPPY tells the story of WWII fighter ace Larry "Happy" Powell, who survived traumatic burns in a fiery plane crash, and went on to build an incredible career as an assistant director in film and television. After crashing on his 68th mission, Happy became a POW in Germany. After the war, another crash left him badly burned and near death. But his fighting spirit and positive outlook lifted him from the ashes, and he went on to a decades-long career as an assistant director in "The Land of Make Believe," working on Hollywood classics that included Breakfast at Tiffany's, Peyton Place, The Right Stuff, Iron Eagle, and many more.
Happy passed away December 23, 2017. On this date, we have shared his documentary here for the first time. Rest in Peace, Larry. A toast to those Beautiful Days.
