“Dog Dreams” is a short video created by several advanced media interns working for Electronic Media at The Evergreen State College. “Dog Dreams” offers a glance into a couple’s relationship, exploring both their waking and dreaming states. This project is the culminating project of a year long internship, and our undergraduate careers.
The project started as a way to experience more traditional narrative filmmaking, an aspect of filmmaking that Evergreen often overlooks. The goal was to experiment with a variety of different visual styles so we got Max Wilson, a recent graduate of Northwestern University, to write us a script. After several months of sending drafts back and forth we had a full screenplay, a couple weeks after that we had actors, and in another couple weeks we had started production.
The intern group – Steven Chen, Matt McMillan, Scott Tipton, Loie Vaughn, Evan Meeker, and Briana Marela – have worked together since September 2010, mostly on a live music TV series called Olympia Winter Nights. This project was hugely successful and a critical step in our ability to work together as a production team.
