Our Feature Presentation and for the first time ever, a short film “2017 at Highview Angus Ranch ~ "Our Business -- Our Life" by Angelika Ursula Dietrich of Wild Horses Media Productions.
Come along with us as we capture the scenes of our daily ranch work, animals, mother nature, and the incredible vistas that surround us each and every day.
“Our Business—Our Life” not only reflects our mortal existence and spirit but a lifestyle that is utterly embedded deep into our being. The extraordinary dedication to all our animals no matter the weather or circumstances might seem peculiar to some but is just something we are deep down to our core.
We also include a “Tribute” to two of our very beloved animal friends: One who left us after 17 wonderful years of doggie life, the other too soon after only 18 months in his playful and precious equine life. Their impact will be forever engraved into our hearts and our memories will never forget them.
We hope this short film also serves as a testimonial and recognition beyond our own for everyone in American Farm & Agriculture who help produce the safest, most abundant, affordable, and yet enjoyable food supply in the world.
Highview Angus Ranch has been family-owned and operated below the Wallowa Mountains near Enterprise, Oregon USA since 1960. Please enjoy an inside reflection of who we are and shall continue to be...2017 at Highview Angus Ranch ~ “Our Business -- Our Life”
A pesonal note from Angelika:
Videos like these are made possible when one lives 12 months a year 24/7 on-site :)
Given that I never leave home without at least one camera and two extra batteries, I shot uncountable video segments, took more than 5,000 pictures throughout 2017 of which less than 1,500 survived.
I’ve been known to run outside in my Pajamas and slippers or even barefoot only to stand in the ice-cold snow to capture one of those “Oh my God” moments :)
What I seek to experience behind my lens is what the rancher intimately feels through every vein in their blood. I know I probably got something right when I experience goose pumps or tearing up while capturing a moment; especially when Jeff just offers a simple “WOW” when reviewing the footage.
One of the scenes that really got to me this Christmas when standing outside in the snow realizing that the cows had started to fall into a slow trot coming directly toward us with the lead cow “marching” her herd forward as soon as we opened the gate.
Of course, my [other] life evolves around my horses who are truly “the mirror to my soul”.
Thus, it was heartbreaking and total devastation when I lost a very young and promising horse this year who was foaled at the ranch in 2016. Tristan was the most unique horse I have ever had in my life, letting me know from Day 1 that he was indeed a stallion. He is embedded in my soul forever.
John Wayne once said: “Courage is to be scared to death and saddling up anyway”. With that said, I shall continue to believe in the plan that the great Devine has in store for me by carrying on to champion "the right to farm", animal husbandry, and standing up for human rights for all - by means of life behind the lens and otherwise…
