In a fantastic and mythic history, inspired by the facts of the XIX century, YAKU, a preteen mestizo with advanced mindset, leads a gang of five friends who live in Antigua, a spanish colony town placed in some part of latin america. This gang helps to achieve the independence of their people, thanks to DON ANTONIO, a wise man who teaches them notions of astronomy, biology, botany and, of course, democracy, assigning them risky expeditions which lead them to explore forests, volcanoes, rivers, mountains and deserts.
In these feats they are chased by DON FERNÁN, the evil captain of the empire army, and his loyal but goofy soldiers ENRÍQUEZ and MANRÍQUEZ. After evading their pursuers, YAKU and his friends spread their discoveries, using the newly discovered printing press that DON ANTONIO hides at his studio. Magic powers assist both sides: the witch PEREGRINA use her potions and spells to help DON FERNÁN to imprison our heroes and LORENZO, the shaman, aids YAKU to find his own internal powers, in connection with the plants and animals of their surroundings, so they can escape the traps laid by PEREGRINA.
