AT THE BEGINNING is the backstory of the documentary filmmaker's journey to explore the shared history of blacks and white for her film SHARED HISTORY. This film has been posted to Vimeo by Felicia Furman, the director of the documentary.
SHARED HISTORY is about the complex contemporary and historical relationship between black and white families connected to Woolands Plantation for almost 300 years. The one-hour PBS documentary is based on the meetings and encounters of these families as they come together to begin a conversation about the realities of their connected past.
AT THE BEGINNING features segments of video oral history interviews with elder member of the African American families who as children knew great grandparents who had been enslaved at the plantation. This group of elders have all died since the completion of the film.
