This is the initial version of an experimental video documentary I produced in collaboration with poet Elizabeth Goldring in 1985. Our intent was to portray some of the day-to-day experiences Elizabeth faces as she copes with deteriorating vision loss due to diabetic retinopathy. Elizabeth described to me the visual artifacts and effects she experienced in the course of some of her life activities, as well as during diagnostic procedures she faced, and I attempted to simulate some of these effects using various video techniques. All scenes are accompanied by excerpts of Elizabeth's poems and journal entries, spoken by Elizabeth. This version of "The Inner Eye: From The Inside Out" has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe.
The subsequent 21-minute version of "The Inner Eye: From the Inside Out" that we produced in 1988 is also contained here in the grouping of CAVS/MIT Collaborations and Documentaries.
