Breaking from Actions that are Executed with Guiltless Precision: Ashkal Alwan, Beirut, Aug 2016
Total time: 28 min 14 sec
This work is an ongoing detective auto-fiction which I have been drafting since my stay in Beirut.
The text is a probe into writing in the absence of a human writer--Needless to say it fails where it meets the confines of the alphabetic code. The proper condition for the text, therefore, is to be read-out-loud by an operator-autobiographer. The form of reading-performance is as well employed in order to consider writing as a medium for human mutation: In writing “I” tend to distract myself, as the self is being perpetually reorganized within the text.

During their own diary, A&B’s narrative proxies encounter H (a solar entrepreneur and a notorious historical figure in Lebanese drug smuggling networks) and the pervert sun-god emperor Heliogabalus, and form scattered thoughts on what happened to emotions after the 60s. Somehow unwillingly, the proxies land in the premises of a blockbuster documentary film production about a drug rehabilitation center...
