This is a nine minute single shot video taken from the side of a boat. it's direction is determined by the currents while floating down the Peace River. Sound sources were recorded on location and in the depths of a hydro dam.
The Peace River is under threat by BC Hydro and the SiteC dam project. If the dam is completed this entire area, Indigenous land, and fertile farmland necessary for future food security will be under water.
What you see here is not the final outcome of the artwork by Julie Gendron and Emma Hendrix. We are releasing this version now to help create public awareness about the SiteC dam which has been approved by the new NDP government in British Columbia.
The final work will be an a/v performance and will be completed over the next couple of months.
Many thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts for financially supporting this project.
