This WildWednesday we are sharing some video we captured of a wolf that has been wounded, most likely while trying to take down an ungulate (like a deer or a moose).
The imagery may be disturbing to some so we are giving you plenty of warning: if such things are hard for you to watch it is best to skip through to something else.
Like cougars, wolves have to be very cautious about what type of prey they choose. If they choose the wrong prey, something too large, or too fast, then they run the risk of getting injured - and that is what we suspect has happened here. It looks as though this wolf has been kicked in the shoulder, or stomped by a would-be supper. A wounded wolf or cougar has little chance of survival so that is why they are very hesitant to attack an animal that they are unsure of.
Making yourself to look as large and as threatening as possible to a cougar, wolf or coyote is your best chance of deterring an attack altogether.
