IRIS - Dance in the fissures of humanity
IRIS is a stage production directed by Johanna Nuutinen in collaboration with film maker Jukka Rajala-Granstubb. The multidisciplinary work explores the themes of strength, desire and survival through the mediums of dance and film. IRIS got it ́s premiere in September 2017 in Helsinki and was a success amongst the audience. The work takes the audience on a visually arresting and physical journey into a fabric woven of shards of humanity. The short dance films work in sync with two renowned performers on stage can be screened as a separate unit also on film festivals.
On stage we see two mature and renowned performers whose actions happen in sync with the films. French-born Nathalie Ruiz is a award winning choreographer, performer, teacher and film director. After her collaboration with choreographers Martha Graham, Twyla Tharp and Karine Saporta, she came to Sweden for the Cullberg Ballet in 1988. Since then she has been working with the contemporary choreographers Mats Ek, Jiri Kylian, Per Jonsson, Kenneth Kvarnström, Örjan Andersson, Helena Franzen, Efva Lilja, Birgitta Egerbladh, Cristina Caprioli, Philippe Blanchard, among others. Yvan Auzely is a former soloist dancer of Cullberg Ballet and still one of the most trusted dancers of Mats Ek. His recent work as a performer can be seen in short film AXE choreographed by Mats himself. In the short films we will see top contemporary dance performers and circus artists from Finland.
