In our Gospel text this morning we read about what it means to be born of God. That’s very personal. It’s almost too explicit. The seed is sown in us from above. The seed is the word of God. We either believe the word or we do not believe the word. Believing the word of God is the basis of our whole relationship with him. Believing God is the whole basis of the beginning of our life in him. It is belief that regenerates our soul by the Holy Spirit of God. It is belief that enables the Son of Man to conceive himself in us. And it is upon our belief that our whole fellowship with each other is based. When we confess the Church’s doctrine of the Trinity, we confess the Apostolic teaching of the Trinity. And when we confess the Apostolic teaching of the Trinity, we confess that they are merely presenting to us what Jesus has said to them about himself. And what Jesus has presented about himself is true to what is there.
