This session was originally held on February 2, 2018.
Empowering young people means adults need to step back and serve as youth allies. Each encounter with a young person is a cross-cultural experience; only a young person intrinsically knows youth culture. Yet, generalizing all teens as if they share common opinions is risky as each young person is unique. A committed adult advocate will encourage youth self-advocacy and autonomy. In this webinar, Dr. Podgurski will facilitate a conversation with a panel of young people and explore the best way to inspire their self-advocacy. Their voices matter. Let them be your teachers!
The panelists are peer educators with the Academy of Adolescent Health and serve on the Common Ground Teen Center Executive Board. In addition, four young parents will consult on the webinar. The session will be facilitated by Dr. Mary Jo Podgurski. Dr. Podgurski is certified as a sexuality educator and a sexuality counselor through AASECT (American Society for Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists).
