The Network Assurance Engine provides a new proactive approach to operating SDN-based data centers. The engine builds a comprehensive formal mathematical model of the network, and combines it with deep domain knowledge of networking. It enables operations teams to continuously ensure their actual network behavior is correct and consistent with specified intent.
The Network Assurance Engine builds a data-center-wide model of human configurations, the control plane, and the dynamic state and runs a comprehensive set of checks across the underlay, overlay, and virtualization layers. Models for how multi-vendor devices such as load balancers, firewalls, VMs etc. interact with the network are also made available, along with integrations with operations toolchains and workload optimization tools.
The system generates intelligent events that proactively pinpoint network configuration and state errors before they manifest in outages or vulnerabilities, help predict the impact of changes, and enable rapid root-cause diagnosis. This session will introduce the principles of the Network Assurance Engine to attendees, and explain how the use of formal mathematical analysis (with its roots in Academia), provides solutions to problems that most infrastructure teams have struggled with for decades.
