“The body is a blueprint— an oracle; it can be used to map one’s paths through life and it can be turned to for guidance and wisdom as you navigate those passages.”
This is an excerpt from On the Practice, what I’ve written to describe what it is I do, every day, and what I teach to others who are also seeking ways to connect to their bodies.
As we welcome the Chinese New Year for 2018, we are called to embrace the qualities of its totem: the Dog, in the Element of Earth, and these qualities can be found in the organs and energy lines— meridians— of the body. To draw them out and infuse them into our consciousness, we use Qigong.
The simple, flowing movements of this Qigong form cultivate and honor the aspects of Earth Dog Qi. Earth Dog brings us home. She calls us back to honesty, to fairness, integrity. Dog Qi is loyal, watchful, and just.
You don’t need prior experience to follow along with me in this form; it is safe and nutritious for all, and can be modified for seated practice. Listen to your body and if need be, adjust the movements to fit your level of mobility; you’ll benefit just as much as one who practices the form in its full expression of physicality.
Move with me this way, and we cleanse, nourish, and activate the body parts— both physical and energetic— that will allow ourselves to align with the qualities of the Earth Dog. May this practice serve as a template for gleaning the very highest potential in ourselves and from the year ahead.
