# 02 - Letters To The Seven Churches 02/18/2018
The churches Jesus addresses here were churches that Paul, Timothy and John started years earlier. They had been in existence for 20-30 years, which is a long time in a life of a church. This length of time allowed these churches to develop distinctive personalities, reputations both good and some things not so good.
Jesus loved these churches, as He does all churches that look to Him (not all churches do). Jesus knew they faced real challenges and wrote to them personally with real answers. The Lord also put these letters in the Bible for all churches to read and learn from. Showing the sufficiency of Scripture and the brilliance of the Lord, I’ve never known a church that couldn’t identify with one of these or perhaps aspects of more than one.
The Lord also put these letters in an order that seems to outline church history, bringing up things that through the ages, illustrate types of churches and what churches have had to be aware of.
They each follow the same format, as the Lord obviously wanted us to notice that He looks at each congregation fairly with the same expectations.
*The letter was addressed to the Pastor along with the church, as he is the under shepherd and is responsible to the Lord and will have to explain things. Heb 13:17
*The letter is written to the singular pastor but plural churches (notice vs 7). Roman Catholics are bothered by the plural churches and plural elder churches are bothered by the singular pastor. Baptist are fine!
