Welcome to the Femmeonomics (femme-o-nomics.com) news in review, all the news professional women need to know with a bit of attitude:
Where are the women?
In an extensive report, Bloomberg BusinessWeek revealed that 29 companies in the S&P 500, or 9.4 percent, have no women on the board or among the five highest-paid executives. Among these companies is Discovery Communications, the co-owner of the Oprah Winfrey Network. Oprah, if you're listening, do something about it.
Can same-sex marriage be good for straight women?
Yes it can, according to an analysis in Slate
The argument goes that same-sex marriage shows that people can engage in a long-term, loving relationship with each other where neither feels obliged to tell the other what to do. We can slowly do away with the stereotypes of the homemaker mating with the hunter-gatherer. The end result: marriage can be an equal partnership after all. Just one more reason to celebrate.
