Moederkerk, Stellenbosch, Thursday 1 March 2018
"yes....both text and improvised......I create a loop with the SA coat of arms motto - !KE: !XARRA //KE (meaning: diverse people unite)...and then there`s the selected text (on a page in front of me) extracted from the words of Psalm 45 as follows....
"My hart, ontroer deur mymering, sal lieflik van`n Koning sing.
My tong, deur digvuur aangedryf, is soos `n pen wat vaardig skryf [.....]
Gord aan u wapens tot die stryd, o Held, u glans en majesteit!
Oorwinnend ry na die geveg vir waarheid, ootmoed, hoogste reg [.....]
uit u ivore-koningshuis kom wonderskone snaargeruis"
I do not read the text as it is but freely recite whatever I feel.... depending on how the loop is speaking to me.... sometimes just single words....sometimes a short sequence of words.... sometimes i repeat a word.... essentially i`m trying to fill the spaces in the loop, that`s all, and trying to create dynamics.... sometimes i emulate what`s happening in the loop by whispering etc.....but so far I`ve never read a complete sentence or line (so far).
It (speaking into the calabash) is a newly discovered function of the Bow that i only found last week at the rehearsal prior to Moederkerk and so i don`t know exactly what i`m doing but making the ground as i walk.... and i don`t practise it at home." Garth Erasmus
