The Great Fire of Salonica: Birth of a City
A feature documentary, in which, through rare archival material, is chronicled the destruction and the rebirth of Thessaloniki after the great fire of 1917. At the same time, a society, an era, a city, the circumstances, the people and the decisions that made it are mapped. It is a cinematic narrative based on testimonies of the time and interviews of historians and researchers unfolding unknown aspects of modern city history in a scenario that combines events and human moments, aiming at both emotion and reflection.
Is it possible for a disaster to be an opportunity for a new beginning? This is the case of Thessaloniki, a city that survived the most devastating fire in its history in 1917, and was reborn from its ashes.
