Bishop Stanovsky: United Methodist brothers and sisters from Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
I've spent the day in meaningful and important Table Talk conversations with the folks that you can see behind me, about ourselves, our lives, about human sexuality, and about the future of the Church we love.
We all want to invite you to join us in similar conversations that will happen across the Greater Northwest Area.
The United Methodist is in some danger of splitting because we don't agree about human sexuality and we don't know how to live together with our differences. We are searching to find a way forward that allows us to continue life-changing and life-saving ministries together at the same time that it allows space for people to minister according to their deepest held faith commitments.
These Table Talk conversations will bring together people in districts, in church clusters, and in other gatherings to spend time in fellowship and communion, and in heart-felt conversation about the values and the future of our church.
We don't expect everyone to agree when they arrive, or when they leave, but we do hope that if you come you will feel genuinely heard, and that you will gain understanding and respect for other people in the church. And at the end of the day, you'll be able to say, "God is with us. God's at work in these conversations. We belong at one table that's prepared for us where we are fed by Jesus."
I hope you'll make time in your life to be a part of this important conversation because the Church needs us all to be present in conversation, in prayer, and with our most gracious love.
God bless you.
