Sunday Tea Artist statement
Sunday Tea is a very personal reflection of a time when leaving the church and the coming of age collided, yet the family ritual of Sunday tea survived.
Juxtaposing the sensuous "landscape" of the human body with the controlled precise art of Victorian china expresses the contrast of the two very different worlds.
Although pleasing, the images evoke contradictions, which keep the viewer just a little off balance. Looking back over 60 years this is also a celebration of physical, emotional and spiritual self, expressing gratitude through grace.
We live in a world where nature and the need for ritual reside side by side. This is Sunday Tea.
