The Oxford Playhouse is a vibrant presenting theatre, hosting a rich programme of home-grown and international drama, contemporary dance and music, music theatre and children's theatre. Taking an increasingly active role in producing, launching and commissioning new work, the theatre tours its own shows across the UK and internationally, hosts artists in residence and presents Playhouse Plays Out, an ongoing series of off-site events that happen across the county.

Writer David Hastings and director Toby Hulse created One Small Step with Oxford Playhouse, a huge hit in Edinburgh Showcase 2009, and are reunited for The Wright Brothers, which captures the lives and inspirational ambition of two ordinary brothers, who through sheer endeavour, belief and perseverance, became self-taught mathematicians, physicists, engineers and, eventually, pilots. Themes include the strength and potential of the individual, the nature of discovery, the importance of science, the inspirational role history plays in society and connecting people across cultures. Using simple but effective styles such as story-telling and object theatre, The Wright Brothers engages younger audiences in a historically accurate but imaginatively dramatic world.
