HOTEL RESIDENTS TO LAUNCH CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SRO SLUMLORDS
VANCOUVER: On Wednesday June 29th SRO hotel residents will launch a class-action lawsuit for tenant justice against the owners of the Palace and Wonder hotels, George Wosley and Douglas Robinson.
Press conference & class-action lawsuit launch
1:00pm Wednesday June 29th
Four Corners Bank at the corner of Main and Hastings
Come to the press conference to hear the details of the class-action lawsuit. Residents and supporters will also outline the demands that a delegation will take to city council in support of the injunction Thursday. Pictures of conditions in the hotels will be available for news media.
This class-action suit comes on the eve of a Vancouver city council meeting where city inspectors will bring requests for injunction action against these hotel owners. City councillor Tim Stevenson hopes an injunction will “make an example” of these owners who are amongst Vancouver’s worst offenders of the SRO Hotel Standards of Maintenance
bylaw. Tenants and their supporters are supporting the injunction and asking the city to be sure residents are helped and not hurt by legal actions.
