Nikolaikirche in Leipzig. Originally built in the twelvth century (i.e.before the Reformation), it was reconstructed and expanded in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Luther preached here, J.S. Bach performed his St. John's Passion here for the first time, and the citizens movement that overthrew East Germany's Communist regime in the fall of 1989 had its centre in this church.
