Attack of the Alien Space Robots is a short film produced by Calvin Cooper an Nathan Parton over a 6 year period.
After a botched intergalactic strike a team of bungling alien space robots turn their attention to Earth, pursued by a team of well-equipped aliens.
Six years in the making, Attack of the Alien Space Robots is a low-budget, low-brow slapstick flatulent sci-fi horror. Contains sheep.
It started as a drunken idea, the kind that should probably be forgotten the next morning, to create a short film mixing 50s B Movie aesthetics with 80s VHS horror stylings. Not being blessed with the largest volumes of common sense Calvin and Nathan decided to go ahead and try, testing the boundaries of low-end consumer camcorders (there was no HD back then).
After several years of prop-making in a shed (cardboard robots, a disastrous "mothership" and latex aliens) they filmed a few shots. After another year or two they realised that if they didn't just draw the whole thing to a close it could go on until their deaths (possibly at the hands of their respective partners). Around 70% of the storyboard/screenplay was scrapped and replaced with a single scene.
With the exception of the theme song (provided by Luton punk band The Adenoids) and some sewing on the alien robes everything you see and hear was created by Calvin and Nathan - all of the effects, soundtrack and effects even the Oscar-standard acting. It's not the masterpiece they originally envisioned but at least it got finished (eventually).
