Before artist Briar Bates died of cancer at 42, she conceived of a piece of performance art involving performers in matching outfits going through a series of synchronized steps in a wading pool. The resulting performance, dubbed "Ankle Deep: A Water Ballet" was performed only once, in memoriam of the unique artist who conceived of it.
Performed by 43 of her friends in matching swimsuits. Briar Bates acted as director until she passed weeks before the actual performance. Primary cinematography and editing was done by Soundview Photography, aerial photography was done by Sky Solutions NW. Copyright belongs to Levi Clark of Soundview Photography.
"Can't a bunch of people splashing about happy in matching vintage swimsuits, pretending to swim, be enough of an artistic statement?" — Briar Rose Bates, 2017
