For the last two and a half years, NMAP has been developing a video series ("Beneath the Surface") designed to connect and empower rural communities facing mining projects. During a 2016 Guinea distribution trip for the series, our team filmed 360-degree virtual reality content with our local grassroots partner to test its potential in the context of community empowerment. Using immersive media in the context of grassroots advocacy is still in its experimentation phase, but we’ll continue to explore how and when emerging storytelling media are best suited for advancing engagement in advocacy and legal empowerment initiatives.
