"When filming Jessica Simpson during a long Steadicam shot through a darkened corridor for Blonde Ambition, it was necessary to keep an eyelight in her eyes," says Dave Frederick, SOC. "We were able to do just that with the Litepanels Mini attached to the Steadicam, without worrying about tripping over each other or an electrician.
"On a recent Showtime pilot starring David Duchovny, I did a near 360 degree Steadicam shot around him," Frederick adds. "It was night, there were Beebee lights and other hidden fill high up but it was impossible to get the twinkle in his eyes. That is, until I rigged the Litepanels Mini on the Steadicam.
"Power the Litepanels Mini directly out of the camera, or using the Litepanels' own batteries saves my back," he adds. "Litepanels Minis have a quality that goes from punchy to smooth in gradual controlled steps, with easy slip-in gels and diffusion panels, suiting every close lighting need.
"The 1x1 square Litepanels have the candle power and yet small flat size to put nearly anywhere," he adds. "They operate off battery for extended periods, making them perfect for moving vehicles or areas away from AC power.
"Then there is the Ringlite Mini, which I have used on the Steadicam as a specialized eyelight or gentle fill. It works well softened and remotely dimmed as the camera comes close in, gliding on the Steadicam. Meanwhile, the gaffer on the remote dimmer is able to keep exposure level spot on. "I simply love the wireless, energy-efficient Litepanels!"
