A video taken on July 8 2011 shortly after we got the first light with a instrument named FIRST-18, a fibered imager. This project aims at testing this new technology showing its capabilities to observe the close vicinity of nearby stars. Fibered imagers could have a potential to directly image exoplanets in orbit around their star.
This instrument was previously tested at Lick-Shane in July 2010, and we installed today a new and better instrument. This project is a collaborative effort between Observatoire de Paris, SETI Institute, UC-Observatory, and JAXA.
