The video tells the story about a man who is changed and ultimately transported to another place - maybe even another dimension - due to watching some strange 8mm footage and drinking something even stranger!
Music by Mike Hay, featuring Erlend Tait on lead guitar. A love letter to John Carpenter.
The video is by first time filmmaker Mike Hay who is also a musician who performs under the moniker Eyes Above. The goal of the project was to produce something exciting to watch that matches the adrenaline rush of the music; something that looks like a mini sci-fi film that punches above its shoe-string budget.
I have been writing and recording music for a number of years which has led to this Eyes Above project. The music is high energy heavy rock infused with my other loves of synth, electronic music and film scores. My background in and love of underground music has instilled a strong DIY ethic in me over the years. We live in exciting times as far as a myriad of resources and tools go for both music and
film production, so I felt compelled to put something together that celebrated my love of music and film.
Most of the shoot was limited to indoor locations but I decided the theme leant itself to striving for some sense of scale and urgency by mixing the use of wide angle lenses, high contrast lighting and use of
special effects to bridge and enhance the themes of inner and outer space.
For Thursday Night Basic, I have attempted to take as a hard a swing as my limited experience will allow and produce something that is fun, exciting to watch and hopefully exceeds its extremely low
budget and DIY approach.
