OSWEGO, NY — The Oswego Public Library is now offering the “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” program. The goal is to read 1,000 books to your child before they start kindergarten.
Karen Swartz, the Children’s Program Coordinator, started the program at the library. Any child that has not started school yet can sign up.
“As their parents read to them, or care taker, or grandparent, they can mark down each book that they have read on a sheet, and they will get a sticker for each hundred books and a certificate for reading a thousand books before they start school,” Swartz said.
The program started two weeks ago, and Swartz says that fifty children have already signed up for the program. However, Swartz is stillreaching out to those who have yet to join.
“I just want to encourage anyone who has a child who is not in school to come and sign up and be a part of the program,” Swartz said.
For more information on the program, visit the children’s room on the second floor of the library, or call Karen Swartz at 315-341-5867.
