This is a simulation (built in Processing) of a proposed participatory sky observation network. The idea is to sell/give-away hundreds color sensors to be pointed at the sky. The aim would be to spatially blanket the city and Bay Area with sky looking sensors which would push color values back to a server where they would be assembled into a geographic mosaic of average sky color for the entire bay area.

The result would be a real-time view and historical animation of local sky conditions anywhere in the Bay Area. In this way anyone could view the map and see where the fog is at any given moment and which way it is trending. These devices could also have temperature and maybe humidity sensors on board as well. The goal is to make them affordable so that the barrier to participation would be low.
