“The Care Revolution” is a film documenting the transformation of home health care in the state of Oregon since workers gained union representation in 2001. Grounded in extensive interviews with home care workers and incorporating the perspective of other key stakeholders, the documentary traces the history of home health care organizing in Oregon and explains how union representation has transformed the lives of caregivers and the populations they serve. The film also devotes particular attention to the ways in which the union has encouraged community and political engagement among its members, helping them, in the words of several interviewees, to find a “voice and a purpose” and “become a whole different person.” “The Care Revolution’ is especially timely and relevant given the rising number of people who are likely to be served by in-home caregivers as the U. S. population ages.
