Simple but amusing installation for BA Sound Design end-of-year show Ravensbourne 2011, using a super-directional ultrasonic speaker. Later staged at Ogilvy&Mather's central office in Canary Wharf.
The audience walk in and out of the shower - a 2x2m square area on the floor, outside of which the sound is not audible. "Inside" the shower, they are taken into a different space, outside of the context of the (still rather cold) college building. The speaker itself hangs some 15m above and away from the listener, projecting sound via supersonic wave interference in the 30kHz range.
This mid-to-high-frequency system lent itself v.well to bird tweets, crickets chirping, as well as other natural and artificial sounds.
Technical & organisation: David Harnett, Daniel Pugh. I provided the content and put in some finishing touches.
