Every summer throughout Spain, hundreds of small towns, and major cities host open-air public painting competitions known as Concurso de Pintura Rapida (Fast Painting Contest). Thousands of painters, including students, amateurs and professionals, descend upon these towns to compete. Prizes can be from a few hundred to 6000 Euros. These competitions are a unique phenomenon, which only exists in Spain.
This film explores this original world of painting and artists
through the eyes of three very different painters throughout one summer season of competitions. The film explores why painters paint and questions how art is judged and valued.
