Finally! A shared reading lesson in action.

Teachers use shared reading to model and explicitly teach the process, concepts, strategies, and mechanics of reading (focusing on print and modeling early reading behaviors). Students can absorb everything they need to know about reading without having to read independently.

Day 1- Read for enjoyment.
Day 2- Focus on vocabulary (or intonation).
Day 3- Focus on print conventions (directionality,
punctuation, high frequency words, rhyming
words, parts of speech, etc.)
Day 4- Focus on print conventions (revisit yesterday's
focus, extend, compare, or introduce a related
concept)
Day 5- Respond to the story (oral, graphic, written,
visual, or dramatic)
